Prepositions¶
A preposition must have a complement (a noun phrase, pronoun, or gerund) after it, e.g. “in the room,” “after dinner,” “with her.”
Common¶
The most common prepositions are:
at, by, for, from, like, of, on, to, and with;
Others include:
after, before, between, during, over, through, despite, like, because, under, until, and without.
Some prepositions consist of more than one word, such as:
according to, as far back as, because of, contrary to, except for, in addition to, in compliance with, in the absence of, rather than, and thanks to.
